ALL RIGGING SYSTEMS REQUIRE MAINTENANCE.
Weather it's one dead-hung pipe or a 40-motor grid system; they need to be checked. The first step is to consult the owners manual that came with the system. The manual should not only tell you how to operate the system, but also identify all of the major components of that system and their respective maintenance schedules.
A safety inspection should cover all aspects of the performance area. Fire and electrical safety systems, rigging systems and the equipment hung from them should all be inspected, along with operating procedures and general housekeeping.
HAVE YOUR FACILITY INSPECTED ONCE A YEAR. PERIOD.
No ifs, ands or buts. If the place gets used on a regular basis, inspect it on a regular basis.
HAVE AN OUTSIDE ORGANIZATION DO THE INSPECTION.
We don't recommend doing in-house inspections, and neither would your insurance company
